Celebrations on Thursday marking the Chinese New Year were held all over the world with events heralding the Year of the Rabbit.
In New York the Empire State building was lit up in red and gold while there were colourful parades in Paris, a cultural temple fair in Cairo and dragon dancing in Buenos Aires.
The global nature of the celebrations is due to significant Chinese populations around the world. Korea, Tibet, Bhutan, Mongolia, Vietnam and Japan have also been influenced by their interactions with China and hold similar celebrations.
