Banana prices could triple in price thanks to the damaging effects of Cyclone Yasi with prices expected to reach $15/kilo.
The cyclone wiped out most of Australia's banana produce and local supplies are expected to run out in three weeks with shortages lasting for months.
Australian Banana Growers Council head Jonathan Eccles said they would be lucky if 15 percent of produce made it to market in coming weeks.
