American Legal System Injustice

So you thought America was the land of the free and the brave? Hold that thought. The United States maintains its reputation of having a legal system which sometimes takes important legal decisions on arbitrary grounds and churns out examples of cruel injustice.

Out of those three teenagers, only one confessed to the crime which he later retracted but the others maintained their statements that they were innocent. As if no one ever heard of forced confessions in police stations! Over the years campaigns were run to free them and the latest one was a concert organized by Pearl Jam’s Eddie Vedder.

Kelly Clarkson Indy 500

What a show when Kelly Clarkson teamed up with Seal to launch the Indy 500 at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway on the weekend marking memorial day. The pair sang the National Anthem "The Star-Spangled Banner" which was accompanied by David Foster on the grand piano.

The lovely Miss Kelly Clarkson was elegantly dressed in a black dress, Seal really stood out in a yellow jacket, while David opted a more refined look by wearing a tuxedo. The performance started with an introduction by the world renounced composer before Seal sang the first verse and the gorgeous winner of "American Idol" season 1 followed him up.

Clarkson attended the event with her brothers and friends. "Um these cars are averaging around 220 mph?! Hanging at the Indy 500 having fun with my brothers and friends!" She tweeted on Twitter after the appearance. "Danica Patrick has the coolest car on this track!" she added. "It's neon green and super rad looking."

The winning trophy at the event went to Dan Wheldon. "Indy 500 winner!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" the 32-year-old British driver celebrated his victory on Twitter. Also being excited with Dan's winning was Justin Timberlake. The ex-member of NSYNC wrote on his own page, "Congrats to Dan Wheldon, the WR racing team and everyone else who put in the hard work for this victory! Unreal!"

Pirates of the Caribbean On Stranger Tides

Johnny Depp has reassured his fans by committing himself for some more time to the franchise which made him such a global star-Pirates of the Caribbean. The fourth installment of the Pirates of the Caribbean will be released soon.

Johnny Depp has committed himself to the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise, saying that he'll play Captain Jack Sparrow for as long as people want him to. It comes as little surprise that Disney are going for a new movie under the banner, given the way the previous ones were appreciated by the public and the amount of revenue it generated for Disney. Speaking to the press in Cannes, Johnny felt the movies were made for the fans and when they get tired of it, it will just about be the end of the Pirates of the Caribbean and his role as Captain Jack Sparrow.

Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides will be released o the 18th of May.

Wonder Woman TV Show?

After months of speculation, it has been confirmed that Wonder Woman will not become a TV show. The NBC has finally decided to shelve the “Wonder Woman” project put forward by TV mogul David E. Kelley. Robert Greenblatt spoke earlier about why he opted against giving the series the go ahead. Kelley’s pilot included Adrianne Palicki, replaying Lynda Carter who played the role on the small screen. Greenblatt found the pilot nice and the role played by Palicki excellent. However, he felt it was not what they were looking for right now.

NBC decided to do what was best for their schedule. The show would have been aired later during the year and Palicki had even appeared on various websites in her costume. Greenblatt was surprised by the uproar caused by Palicki been seen in the “Wonder Woman” costume. While he appreciated the attention the show got, he still was not sure it was what they were looking for. It is not known yet whether Kelley will try his luck with other networks.

Thor Earnings Reports

Thor is number one at the box office. The movie, featuring Chris Hemsworth, earned nearly $35 million during its second weekend, it was reported on Sunday.

Those figures now bring Thor’s national earnings to $119 million which is about half the amount earned by Iron Man 2, this time last year. Globally, Thor has racked up $344 million and this might just tell you why so many producers are going for action movies nowadays.

Intel chairman, Gordon Moore, predicted in 1965 that chip capacity could double every couple of years. The 27-year-old grew up in the sun-scorched northern territory of Australia and once watched as his father — who had been hospitalized again and again for painful back spasms — gave himself over to the rituals of a healer from a nearby Aboriginal tribe.

Rumors have been circulating that Apple has spent some $4.5 million to Sweden-based company, Xcerion to acquire its iCloud storage service. The deal also included the domain name iCloud.com. This piece of news has fired up speculations that Apple is looking to use the domain name for a cloud-based music service.

Meanwhile, Xcerion have recently rebranded their iCloud service as CloudMe. TechCrunch have contacted the company to enquire whether the name change was enforced by Apple. However, representatives of the company denied it had been the case. Xcerion have now purchased the domain name CloudMe.com to better reflect their focus on storage and files, according to the spokespersons. No mention about Apple was made during any intervention by the company.

The purchase was confirmed on the 29^th April 2011. Apple have got what they were looking for at a price and it remains to be seen whether the rebranding process will affect Xcerion.

Charlie Sheen has promised to make a donation to a fund set up for Bryan Stow. The 42 year old man, father of two and paramedic, was severely beaten during the Dodger’s home opener against the San Francisco Giants.

Profits made from merchandise sold at Sheen’s San Francisco show will be donated by the former ‘Two and a Half Men’ star.

Stow is still in a coma and has suffered damage to both frontal lobes. Doctors have started to decrease the sedations given to induce a coma. Stow was attacked by 2 men, who repeatedly hit him in the head.

A massive $175,000 reward has been set up to find details of the two suspects with Giants pitcher, Tim Lincecum contributing $25,000. Others who contributed to raise this sum include Tom Leykis, the Dodgers and Stow’s employers, American Medical Response.

According to the police, around 100 people have witnessed the savage attack and they are pleaded to come forward with information.

Tornado Alley

The death toll has continued to rise after a number of tornadoes and thunderstorms hit the Southern part of the United States. The number of deaths currently estimated is 305. This is simply the worst tornado mortality that the country has experienced in more than 40 years.

Nearly 200 people have lost their lives in state of Alabama. Speaking to the press on Thursday, Governor, Robert Bentley, announced that the total number of deaths will not be known for another couple of days.

At least seven people-including a police officer- from Arkansas to Alabama were killed owing to the violent weather that ripped through the South for another night. The powerful storms has damaged homes in rural Texas community and spread destruction into Georgia and Tennessee

The severe storms in Georgia uprooted trees, blew out windows in a hospital and destroyed part of a school roof. A tornado warning has been issued in North and Central Georgia as more thunderstorms are to be expected later Wednesday.

Insulation and metal roof panels littered the grounds as Police officers did their routine check-walking down the streets in search of people who might have been stuck in the destroyed houses, spray-painting symbols at the houses that they have checked for people who might be inside.

Scientists Wait for BP Funds

A year after the BP oil tragedy in the Gulf of Mexico, there is now hope that some money will be made available to research the extent of the impact of the oil spills in the region. The $500 million fund released by BP is being controlled by the Gulf of Mexico Research Initiative Research Board, which is waiting for research proposals, according to a statement released today.

Scientists had been waiting desperately for the funds. The fund was set up to provide $50 million each year for 10 years to study 5 particular aspects related to oil spills. These are oil dispersions, environmental impacts and restoration, health effects, degradation and technologies for cleanup and mitigation.

Human Cannonball Dies

Detling was home to a human cannonball show on Monday. However, all went wrong as a man taking part in the event, was killed, according to Kent police.

The incident took place at the Kent County Showground when a safety net failed to engage according to witnesses. Not much detail was released about the man, except that he was in his 20s. His body was not formally identified and his relatives have now been informed of what happened.
