President Barack Obama announced this week that military commissions will resume for inmates held at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.
The announcement made on Monday allows for detainees to be tried before military rather than civilian courts. The move reversed his previous order two years ago to halt new military charges.
However President Obama said new rules would provide adequate rights for the defendants and there would be periodic reviews of their status to determine if they remained a threat. Detainees would also be tried in criminal courts when appropriate.
