Hundreds of Australians remain unaccounted for in disaster-affected Japan.

Two hundred and twenty-three are registered in the worst hit areas.

The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) has confirmed 1675 of a total of 2551 Australians in Japan are safe and is working around the clock with Japanese authorities to locate more Australians.
